Venice in Glendale

Dear Editor:

I am writing to see if you can help us. In September 2007, the Department of Transportation repaved our street, 69th Street in Glendale, and leveled our sidewalk with the street causing floods up to the steps of our home and our adjoining neighbor’s home every time it rains.

We have complained to our community board, the mayor, the borough president and the Department of Transportation. The answer we got from DOT is that our sidewalk sunk. This is totally wrong; they put more blacktop on the street than they should have.

We are concerned since it is getting cold now and any water on the street will freeze and people will fall on the ice in front of our home, which obviously won’t go away so long as it’s below freezing.

We are senior citizens and don’t have the money to correct this situation or even know what we can do about it other than turn to the people who caused it.

Grateful for coverage

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank you personally for publishing so many of our activities and fund-raising events for the Friends of the Ridgewood Library.

You keep the public aware of our group and as a result, it has grown this year by 13 new members with just this last membership drive where we gave out 10 free books and free hot dogs and soda when paying five dollars for the year to join the Friends group. Both the youth and adults in Ridgewood are the ones who are benefiting in this endeavor because we give back to the library and the community.

Once again, thank you, reporter Robert Pozarycki, who came for our “Save Room for Dessert”—where we thanked our youngsters who drew pictures at the Fun Day events I and II—and the photographer, J. Naughton, who took photos of us while we read stories to the little children at 93 Park and Farmers Oval this summer.
